As a service to its users, the Wethersfield Library provides free wireless Internet access (Wi-Fi) for people to use with their own laptops or other devices. The Library cannot guarantee that the service will be available at any specific time. Signal strength may vary.
Most Wi-Fi equipment will be compatible, but the Library does not guarantee compatibility with the Library’s network.
In accordance with the American Library Association Library Bill of Rights, the Wethersfield Library provides unrestricted access to the Internet. Any restriction or monitoring of a minor’s access to the library’s wireless network is the sole responsibility of the parent or guardian.
The wireless network is not encrypted so other wireless users may intercept any information you send or receive using the wireless network. The Library recommends that you do not enter credit card numbers, passwords or other personally identifiable information. Other wireless users may be able to view or change files on your computer. The Library recommends that you install and use anti-virus software, firewall software and current security patches or upgrades on your computer.
Use of the Library’s wireless network is entirely at the risk of the user. The Library disclaims all liability for loss of data, confidential information or damages resulting from that loss.
Library users are cautioned that the Library is a public area which must be shared by Library users of all ages. Library users may not use the library’s wireless network to transmit or receive illegal, harmful, obscene or disruptive material. Library users are expected to respect intellectual property rights by making only authorized copies of copyrighted or licensed software or data residing on the Internet. By using the wireless access network at Wethersfield Library, the user acknowledges that he/she is subject to and agrees to abide by all laws, rules and regulations of the Wethersfield Library, and state and federal government that are applicable to Internet use. The user specifically agrees to abide by the Library Behavior Policy and the Library Internet Access Policy
Users are responsible for configuring their own devices. Library staff may provide general assistance to users of the wireless network (such as identifying the Library’s public network) The Library cannot accept the liability of handling a user’s equipment. Library staff are not allowed to manually configure user’s laptops or other devices or install software on devices.
Library staff are not able to provide in-depth technical assistance for devices, cards or configurations. If users need assistance, they should contact the manufacturer of the device or software. The Library is not responsible for any changes users make to their device’s settings.
At this time, library printers are not available via the wireless connection. Wireless users requiring sound must use headphones so as not to disturb others. Available power outlets may be used wherever the cord does not present a tripping hazard or block access for other Library customers or staff. Chairs or tables will not be moved to electrical outlets.
The Library assumes no responsibility for physical damage to or loss of devices; users must keep their devices with them at all times.
Users may not set up their own wireless access points. Any attempt to circumvent Library procedures or any unauthorized attempt to access or manipulate Library networks or equipment will result in permanent disconnection from the Library’s wireless network and denial of all public computer use at the Library.
