Summer 2010

Make Your Fines Go Down the Drain

Library users will be able to “clean up” their overdue fines this summer by bringing in personal hygiene items to donate to the Wethersfield Food Bank.

From June 15th through the end of August, the Library will be accepting health and beauty items such as toothpaste, soap, deodorant, shampoo and disposable razors in payment for overdue fines.

Wethersfield Social Services Director Nancy Stilwell said, “hygiene supplies are always in short supply and great demand by Wethersfield Food Bank clients so these donations will be greatly appreciated.”

Help your neighbors by donating these items to the Library and watch your fines GO DOWN THE DRAIN!

Questions and Answers

Q. Can I ‘pay’ fines from other libraries in your system with a
donation?
Yes. State regulations let libraries collect and keep fines for other libraries. It doesn’t say anything about the currency of the payment.

Q. Can I still pay you money, if I want to?
Yes, that is fine.

Q. Can I pay for a lost or damaged book with a donation?
No. Lost and damaged items need to be replaced.

Q. Does the item I bring have to cost the same as the fine I owe? No. Some items will be cost more, some less, and it will all even out.
