Renovation of the Wethersfield Library
The renovation of the 1958 library and its 1977 addition is part of a larger project funded by a 1999 bond issue, which began with construction of the new police station.
The library renovation will achieve the
following improvements to serve you better:
¨ an expanded children’s library with a dedicated program/activity room, more
computers, and areas for different ages
¨ a new teen area
¨ a new larger meeting room will be a
community resource and enhance programs
w conference and private study rooms with space for quiet study and meetings
¨ handicapped accessible public toilets
¨ a public drinking fountain
¨ a room for the Wethersfield History
Collection
¨ an updated phone system to make it easier for you to reach us and new wiring to
improve the function of our computer
technology
A second phase of work on both the Town Hall and the Library will improve the basic
infrastructure and bring it up to compliance with fire and safety codes. This will include a new roof, installation of fire sprinklers, a new fire alarm system, improvements to heating, ventilation and air conditioning, and widening the stairway from the Library’s main floor to the mezzanine.
We hope to reopen the Library on three fully renovated levels in the spring of 2007. Until then only the temporary library on the ground floor is open to the public.
